Show ONE MORE PARDON L WILLIAM G BLEAK THE LUCKY MANOTHERS ALL DENIED Library Board Meets and Decides to Have tIe State Library Insured Governor Has Not Yet Prepared the Form For the New Bonds Land Commissioners Will Meet This Morning Price of State Warrants War-rants State Board of Equalization Equaliza-tion Meets Tomorrow I took the board of pardons four and onehalf hours last night to decide that William G Bleak who was sent up from the district court at Provo three years ago come the 27th of June for the offense of forgery should be pardoned par-doned Of course a statement of this kind means that a regards affirmative action his was the only case acted acton upon Jerry Richardson who was sent up for six years for rape George Hartley sent up from Springville for assault with intent to commit outrage Cole V Noel convicted at Ogden of burglary burg-lary Joseph Hedges the weak minded youth who was committed from this city for an assault with an attempt to commit an outrage on a little girl William Wil-liam Ryan for burglary Robert M Bowen forgery Samuel Mulberry who was sent up for twenty years for murder mur-der in the second degree whose case is so well known to every one in this vicinity and Eliza Metz the woman who was convioted about a year ago on the charge of procuring were all denied clemency While nothing official was cemency it is learned that Mul berrys case excited considerable cornmeal corn-meal LIBRARY BOARD The state library board held a meeting meet-ing yesterday afternoon at which it was decided to have the state law library li-brary in the joint building insured The books are very valuable and although the structure is practically a fire proof one it was thought the risk was too great a one to take It was decided also to replenish the library with certain cer-tain volumes which are necessary to have and a committee was appointed to secure the same In connection with the matter of books it may be news to some of the attorneys of the city to mention that the last volume of the Utah State Reports is out and is avery a-very creditable work STATE BONDS It will be remembered this paper announced an-nounced a few days ago that the state board of loan commissioners had appointed ap-pointed the governor a special committee commit-tee to draft a form for the state bonds which will be issued very soon The governor yesterday called at Wells Fargos bank to get one of the old forms of territorial warrants but they were all sent away at the time of redemption re-demption and a form will have to be obtained from the east unless perchance per-chance it is decided to accept one of he city bonds This it is said would be acceptable to all the bond men inasmuch in-asmuch as it is a gold bond and one I which will bear all the tests of the financiers with the somple change of the name Salt Lake City to State of Utah The governor had not made up his mind last evening what action he would take in the premises LAND COMMISSION The state board of land commissioners commission-ers will hold a meeting this morning at 10 oclock at which time its organization organiza-tion will be perfected and its business begun The board will have a great del to do within the next thirty days and in fact will be the busiest body in the state for the next year While nothing is given out until the regular meetings of the board it is stated that applications for leases on lands are canting in all the time and that there will be no lack of applicants whatever STATE WARRANTS State warrants sold yesterday for 85 cents although the price offered by the scalpers was only 80 Very few of the banks care to make a quotation on state paper It appears that the bankers bank-ers do not care to make offers until after the result of the bond sale although al-though the state auditor is confident that the commonwealth will be all right from a financial point of view in avery a-very short time Up to date no fees have been paid into his office by any of the officials who will do so later on but this does not affect matters as there is no clash between the state officers and the law compelling the deposit of fees BOARD OF EQUALIZATION The members of the state board of equalization will meet tomorrow morning morn-ing in the office of the secretary of state at which time the secretary will report back his action in the matter of books and papers which he was instructed in-structed to procure Some other business busi-ness is likely to come before the board I at that time also II I |
