phoenix from the ashes of last I seasons fashions Dainty stuffs will be the order of the day and fine silks grenadines canvas and gauzes will be equally favored by fashion Costumes made of these goods will have the great advantage ad-vantage of being commeilfaut for the promenade as well as for visiting or receptions For ilk gowns we would choose surah Peru de Cygne and Louisiue and otheis having a soft and light effect and dainty coloring As to the forms of the different parts of the toilette we know that great changes have taken place since last summer The sleeves have become very much narrower and all fullness If any Is at the shoulder The sleeves of our spring models are quite tight Flounces of I real lace pieaiea SlUt riaoon or gauze relieve the severe lines at the shoulder The fullness of the skirt while still liaring somewhat at the sides is mostly most-ly gathered at the back and the spring will show us many trimmed skirts The trimmings will consist of lace inserting in-serting embroider bands of passe menterie and bias folds of the same good as the dress and generally placed around the whole width of the skirt In fact the imagination of the dressmaker can be given full liberty ro various will be the trimmings and the mode of putting them on For the grand Robe de Ceremonle satin duchess rich faille and heavy J > rocades of Louis XV style will be chcsen and above all one can predict particular success to moire antique which again will make its appearance as it seems to combine better than any other silk with rich trimmings laces or embroideries Evening gowns will again he cut with a train a fashion for which were we-re very grateful as the skirt no matter mat-ter how rifhly made cannot give its wearer the air of elegance and dignity which distinguishes the trained robe Of all trimmings none will be as much In vogue as lace lace of all kinds mae by hand or bv me 7 possess treasures in the form of Bruges Malines or DAlencon lace will of the toilet which we must not ignore is thr outside garment to be worn in the early spring It seemed for a while that the collarette would drive the jacket out of public favor Since the diminution of the sleeve however that jaunty and becoming garment has again come to honor It will be worn tightfitting at the bach and adjusted over the hips without goflets or ripples at the back and doubl
