Show I TWO GREAT GOLD DISTRICTS State Line i Utah and Eagle Valley Val-ley in Nevada Last year two very promising gold camps were added to the list of the wealth producers of this country and It is believed that during the coming summer these districts will come to the front as two of the richest mineralized portions of this intermountain region One of these new camps is State Line in the western portion of Iron county while just over the boundary in Nevada is Eagle Valley district in which a number of Salt Lakers are in terested including Hon Allen G Camp bell and Colonel H L Pickett Ben Johnson the well known mining man who Is interested with Mr Camp bell in Eagle Valley writes a very in ve teresting letter from his camp to the Mercur Mercury as follows You have a great gold camp as I know from my own knowledge but I think we have one here as great if not greater I left some good holdings in your camp to come here at the solicita tion of an old solcia ton mining friend and I am glad I came for I have better showings of gold on top and bigger ledges than I ever saw before There are two mining districts here that are similar in every respect State Line mining district Is about ten miles mies square situated in Iron county Utah joining on to the Nevada line and is lne almost literally covered with goldbear ing quartz ledges some of which are 40 I or 50 feet wide Sometimes there are I three or four god sized ledges on one I location either one of which I would be ldb considered a bonanza any place but I here but here they are so common we look on them with a kind of Indiffei ence You no doubt have seen what Nu I gent says of them I dont think he overstates it at all The district I am Iin and in which I most of my claims are is called Eagle Valley mining district and is in Lincoln county Nev and joins the other district at the State lines and is about the same size This district was formed a year ago this month but was not much thought of until myself and others came in here I last July The organizer of the dis trict had a few claims located near Line City but the major portion of the I district was unexplored until July when Troutman Clark Joseph Vanina Bennett Ross myself and others i branched out and now we have in all about 200 claims on record about 100 of which any one of them is good enough for one man A G Campbell and myself have 34 about 20 Campbel showing free gold and perhaps the others would hut I have not had time to prospect them as yetI tme yet-I am only working two men and a boy myself as yet but hope and expect ex-pect to do more in the spring We have a number of small springs in among the mines which I think will be ample for milling for the present I have a nice log cabin 13x16 in the clear a blacksmith shop a cellar 1 root house and stable for my saddle horse so you see I a fixed My ledges run from 15 inches up to 300 feet wide and carry the Up of gold I am a Nevadian now and will only say God bless Utah and especially especialy Mercur for she was my first camp |
