Show DRAFT AT THE GOLDEN GATE Only One Shift Now Employed at the Mine Morcur Feb 27The Golden Gate has laid oft quite a number of their men and are now running but one shift The orders came from Salt Lake City yesterday and this morning there are quite a number of idle men on the streets None of them seem to think the shutdown will last many days but as a large number have been engaged en-gaged sinking shafts between the liter cur and Golden Gate the falling through of the deal rendered their urther labors unnecessary The development at the Golden Gate has reached the stage where it becomes be-comes necessarv to build a mill or cease operations As it is impossible to do much in that line at present there is ro need for keeping a large force at work This is the opinion of the leading mining men of the camp The Mercur mill and mine are not yet able to run things at full blast on account of the difficulty in getting ore to the mill but a few days more will settle all that and the output will j again come up to its old figure Preparations are being irrade for increasing I in-creasing the mill capacity and a cor responding increase of the workmen re3inl I I at the mine will naturally follow In regard to the failure of the deal your correspondent is reliably Informed that Captain De Lamar made a proposition propo-sition that the Mercur purchase the Sacramento and add in with the others thus tying up three of the best properties proper-ties in the camp The management of the Mercur was not anxious to sell for 1500000 the examination showing that at those figures the mine would be a I bargain hence it did not care to go out of It way to consummate the deal The company seem to be well satisfied with the outcome and the people of made Mercur arc glad no change will be I |
