Show THAT SANDY ELECTION J B Jenson Presents the Other Side of the Controversy There ° has been much talk of irregularities frauds and contests regarding re-garding the recent election at Sandy and both sides have become much exercised exer-cised in consequence Yesterday J B Jenson of Sandy was in the city and in reply to questions gave the following follow-ing version of the matter With regard to the irregularities alleged al-leged to have been committed by the judges of election in the recent election elec-tion at Sand I will say that so far as my knowledge goes no irregularities or frauds have been committed in the matter The accusation simply sprung from the fact that three municipal tickets were found in the precinct bal lot box It was decided and quite generally gen-erally understood that should this be the case in either box those ballots should be counted as blanks The boxes were therefore plainly labelled one Precinct Box the other City Box The presiding judge was entirely en-tirely disinterested not even being a city voter He would receive but one vote at a time depositing it as directed direct-ed by the voter before receiving his other ballot The other judges or clerks represented one the Independents Independ-ents the other the Citizens The election elec-tion was without regard to politics At the counting of the ballots every candidate was either present or represented repre-sented and every man present knows that everything done by the judges was done fairly and that three men were never more anxious that a fair election should be held and that every mans ballot should be counted but I they hardly felt authorized to transfer ballots from a precinct box to a city tally sheet under the circumstances I Had there been three Republican or Democratic ballots in the other box Hto tally with three found in the precinct pre-cinct box it would have appeared that the mistake was simply the placing of the wrong ticket into each box but whether one man voted two city tickets tick-ets one in each box or whether some man placed them wrong with the purpose pur-pose that they should not be counted as that was the understanding in a case of that kind and many were hurried hur-ried up to the polls to vote a certain ticket no one knows The Citizens have obtained the best counsel and propose to fight the case to the bitter end I am informed With regard to illegal voting and the work done by certain men at the Mingo I cannot speak intelligently and do not pre tend to know anything except that it was done entirely without the officers knowing it This statement is made simply to do justice to the people of Sandy and in behalf of the judges of election |
