Show AT THE UNIVERSITY Brief Talk on the Special Session and Silver Hon Joseph L Rawlins addressed the University club and its invited guests for thirty minutes last night before his departure for Washington over the Rio Grande Western Cards had been issued by the club to a few of its friends announcing that Mr Rawlins would deliver an address on Washington as he found it but owing to his hurried departure several II changes were made and the delegate confined himself to a short talk on I Congress and the special session He began by outlining briefly the work of Congress during the special session and told of the purposes of the session ses-sion as set out in President Clove lands call or message The honorable gentleman took occasion to severely I criticize the presidents attitude toward to-ward Congress during the session and declared that heretofore it has been customary when the chief executive has called special sessions of Congress to make a simple call and leave the members to decide upon the matter which need attention and the course to be pursued President Cleveland he said had in his call set out the purposes of the special session and the course which he desired Congress to pursue The speaker also devoted a few minutes min-utes to a statement as to his personal views on the silver question and his opinion as to the results of the passage pas-sage of the repeal act The address was followed with the closest attention atten-tion |
