harmless harm-less but still always to be guarded against Weak intellects as well as f strong are to be found among them Success frequently determines in the eyes of the world whether or not a man is a crankin science for instance in-stance a man turns all his energies I in one direction If he brings nothing I to fulfilment or dies too soon he is a crank if successful a Darwin The crank of one class looks with disdain upon the crank of another class The second paper was an account of two musicians who have recently passed pass-ed away Gounod and Tschaikowsky the one a Frenchman the other Russian Rus-sian Gounods masterpiece was the opera Faust upon which he thought and studied for years This opera has been performed over a thousand times in Paris alone and this lifted him to fame An interesting sketch of his home life was given Tschaikowsky was a musician of more purely national na-tional character and all critics unite in praising him The last paper was on the Closing Days of the Worlds Fair The fair Is dead its material glory Is departed I but Its influence Its spirit of beauty I its mesge of peace on earth these w live and will live on in our hearts I |
