Show UTAHS DELEGATE Our honored Delegate J L Rawlins started on Saturday night for Washington Wash-ington where he expects to renew his labors in the interest of this territory The gentleman could not but have been gratified at the many marks of commendation he has received for his services during his brief visit to his native heath Mr Rawlins is Utah born and bred and he is thoroughly interested in the welfare of the people peo-ple of whom he is one in the fullest sense He has been signally successful success-ful in the endeavors he has put forth in their behalf and he will have the full sympathy and support and confidence confi-dence of his constituents in his further fur-ther efforts The great work before him As the statehood which appears now to be the desire of nearly everybody in this I territory There will probably be no opposition from this end of the line At any rate dt will not be exerted openly or to any very great extent In the Senate there are some gentlemen gen-tlemen not yet converted fully to the good policy of granting statehood to Utah Recent occurrences here may have some effect in dampening the ar der of a few of the supporters of the movement It will be the aim of our Delegate to remove every obstacle so far as lays in his power and we are sure the people here may depend upon up-on his best energies and the exercise of his well known abilities to effect that result Mr Rawlins returns buoyed up with the assurance that he is understood and appreciated in Utah and the effects of that conviction convic-tion will stimulate him in his winters labors He bears with him the good wishes and faith of the people of Utah and the Herald joins with them in the belief and expectation that he will be able to accomplish the grand desideratum desider-atum May success attend him |
