| Show SAVED BY LARIAT Narrow Escape From Drowning of Young William Holcate Mr Holgate of this city received a letter the other day from his son William who resides at St Johns Apache county Arizona Ari-zona in which ho details a narrow escape from death that he lately experienced The young man had started to haul a load of hay from the town where he resides to a place called Wind Mill ranch and it seems had unloaded and started to return across the Zuni river when his team was carried out of sight by the freshet The wagon however did not sink but floated along partially submerged and threatening every moment to go to pieces Where the accident acci-dent occurred tho banks of the stream below the crossing place were so high as to entirely preclude any effort on the part of Mr Holgato to escape and death seemed almost inevitable in-evitable when luckily at this juncture a Mexican appeared on the bank above and threw the unfortunate man the end of along a-long lariat with which he succeeded in landing him safely upon terra firma The horses were of course drowned their bodies bod-ies being found some five miles below still attached to fragments of the wagon Utoll fan |
