| Show GOMPEES FAITH In the Solidity and Strength of the Federation I Stronger Than Ever and He Believes the Noble Order of the Knights of Labor is no Longer in It Special to THE HERALDExamlner Dispatch NEW YORK April 21Samuel Gompers president of the American Federation of Labor has returned from his two months speechmaking and organizing tour all over tholand of the American eagle His faith in the solidity and strength of the federation federa-tion is greater than ever and he believes tie noble order of Knights of Labor is no longer in it Ho said In one way my trip has been one of the most remarkable of its kind ever undertaken in the crowds that assembled to hear what I had to say about our organization The energy displayed in the work of organizing open unions was wonderful and the enthusiasm over the eighthour movement was unbounded I found we had strong friends in every centre of industry In San Franeisco I addressed ad-dressed a meeting of 14000 men I found the laboring men in the west are more closely united and in greater harmony than they are here From all that I saw I am convinced that the American Federation of Labor represents the true feeling of the workingmen throughout the country In Denver legislature suspended business bus-iness and gave Mr Gompers the privilege of the floor Mr Gompers made a long vigorous speech in which he explained the principles underlying the organization of the federation which was so well received he remarked jokingly that he expected every minute to receive an application for a charter from the progressive union of the members of tim Colorado legislature The miners of Denver presented him with a gold badge the metal of which had been mined by men working eight hours and jewelled and lettered by jewellers working the same length of time |
