control of the city recorder That the committee on municipal laws be in structed to present to this council at its next meeting an ordinance covering this resolution By request of Councilman Hal the city council hereby de termine to proceed with the improvement of laying sidewalks i districts I 2 4 and 13 and that the work and improvements be made under the supervision of the board public works propcrrecognltion of the event be made by the city I request that a committee cmmittee of live from this council be appointed to arrange for the reception and entertainment of the President and his party with authority to co operate with the citizens committee and make all necessary arrangements On motion of Councilman Spafford the recommendation was adopted and the mayor authorized to appoint such commit tee His honor named Parsons Anderson James Noble and Pembroke FIRST SOUTH SIDEWALKS The ordinance levying the tax and for the assessment or property to construct sidewalks on both sides of First South street from East Temple to Second East was then taken up and passed The East 5153 por foot front on property abutting on the street to be benefited by the improvement improve-ment A similar ordinance levying the tax and for the assessment of property to construct sidewalks on both sides of First South street from Second East to Eighth East streets was passed The tax in this dis trict is S2 cents per linear foot SECOND SOUTH PAVEMENTS The ordinance levying the tax and for the assessment of property to construct side walks on both sides of Second South street from Second East t Eighth East was then passed The tax in this district is also S3 i cents per front foot MORE SIDEWALKS A similar ordinance for a sidewalk on both sides of First South street from East Temple to Fourth Wpst was then front passed foot The tax in this district is S152 per PAVING DISTRICT NO 1 Councilman Parsons introduced an ordi i nance creating paving district No1 the I I boundaries of which are as follows On the north by North Temple on the south by Third South on the West by West Temple Tem-ple on the east by Fourth East street The lines are however extended hal street block in all directions and cut through the entre of the blocks so as to include both sides of the streets named within the distrIct dis-trIct Councilman Hall wanted to know if under the ordinance they would be coned lin con-ed to the use of any one material and Cw ouncilman Parsons replied that they would not Engineer Doremus stated that the cest of asphaltum and granite blocks was about the same and in advertising both materials mate-rials might be specified Councilman Noble thought it would be I well to divide the district into three district dis-trict as the work of paving coul be carried car-ried on to better advantage Councilman Hall moved to amend the ordinance by making State street Main street and West Temple street each a sep arate district and motion was made to refer the matter back td the committee Councilman James stated that the ordinance ordi-nance represented his best judgment and judgment ho declined to give it any further consideration consid-eration I tho ordinance was not suti factory fac-tory he suggested that the matter be re ferred to a special committee Councilman Noble said that he was wil ling to accept the report of the committee and place the responsibiliiy on the committee com-mittee All the amendments offered were voted L down and the ordinance was finally passed only Councilmen Hal and Karrick voting against it On motion of Councilman Parsons the city engineer was instructed to prepare estimates of the cost of paving guttering and curbing in this district WATER PIPE FOR STATE STREET On motion of Councilman Anderson the mayor was authorized to purchase 8inch water pipe for State street as recommen ded by the superintendent of waterworks only Councilman Pembroke voting in the negative negatveTIE TIE CITY BONDS QUESTION I was now getting well along toward midnight and the members living some distance dis-tance out tried to force an adjournment but were voted down and the report of the i tht committee on finance recommending tha the city treasurer be authorized to sell the < remaining 200000 of city bonds was taken up Councilman Pembroke didnt want the bonds sold in sixty days as he didnt think the money would be needed within that time Councilman Lynn Well I will Just say that we will need a good deal more than i 200000 within that time Councilman PembrokeThat settles it We must need the money I withdraw my objection Councilman LynnThe amount which will have to be met comprises the follow ing items Sewerage 150000 waterworks water-works 23000 fire demartment 35000 land purchases 27000 city and county building 10000 sidewalks
