Show fell! M MlSi By DAVE WIGHAM After some discussion the Bountiful council members gave the go ahead for the planting of the remaining trees along 500 South as part of a beautification project. LAST SATURDAY several city employees with the help from the Exchange Club planted 62 trees, when the project is complete a total of 135 trees will have been planted along 500 South. Councilman Barlow in-, dicated to the group that he had received some complaints concerning the type of tree that the city was planting. The tree is a variety of the crabapple family. MR. BARLOW pointed out that the complaints were, that with this type of tree the debris that fell from it would cause an eye sore rather than beautify the street. City manager Grant Peterson Peter-son informed Mr. Barlow that the type of tree which is being planted is very narrow and won't hang over the street like others. He also mentioned men-tioned that he had been told that there wouldn't be much debris from this variety of the crab apple. COUNCILWOMAN South-wick South-wick was upset at the complaints stating that if the city is trying to do something to beautify the city then the citizens should be thankful rather than the opposite. Councilman Beesley echoed Mrs. Southwick feelings, "No matter what tree you plant someone will complain, all trees drop a little debris but where do you determine the difference." THE MAYOR gave his full support to the project and instructed in-structed the group involved to finish the progect this Saturday Satur-day weather permitting. A new fire substation location was also selected at the councils coun-cils weekly meeting. The first site chosen wasn't available to the city so the alternate site was selected. THIS NEW site is approximately 2000 South and Bonneville Drive in Bountiful. Fire Chief Darrell Mcllrath indicated that although this wasn't his first choice this location is likeable and very workable. |
