Show C A R NEWS railroads have disappointed the old veteran department commander of the G A R has received a communication from W A W cook chairman of the executive committee for the encampment camp ment that is to be held in denver the week beginning sept 4 relating to tho plans tor the entertainment of the old soldiers on that occasion commander was seen this morning and asked regarding the plans ot the alx logan post for attending the encampment he said that as yet no definite plans had been made nor was it known how many of tha old soldiers ot the local post would attend he also said that there vas considerable disappointment on the part of the soldiers over the failure of the railroad companies to keep to the agreement that they made last tall when denver was decided upon as the place for the next encampment at that time tho railroads made a flat rate from all parts of the country of 1 cent a mils to denver the distance from ogden is about six hundred miles which would make the tare from ogden a little over 12 tor the round trip the rate that the companies now announce is 18 for the trip captain states that many of the old soldiers would like to take their families to the encampment but that the failure of the railroads to keep their contract will probably prevent them from doing so in regard to the rumor that salt lake was going to try to start a movement to secure the encampment two years hence the captain said that he had heard of the matter but that he did not believe that anything would come of it tor the reason that salt lake could not begin to accommodate the number that usually attend the national encampment |
