Show H OGDEN AND THE DOUBLE TRACKING. H Again Ogden and the Utah Construction company of this city I arc entitled to congratulations. The construction company has rc- ceived contracts for the grading of 112 miles of new line for the H i Oregon Short Line, including 22 miles of double track, from Ogden j l Roxitli to Farmington, which will complete the double tracking of HI j the Oregon Short Line, between Ogden and Salt Lake, and 66 miles H , of hcam road from Burley, Idaho, to Kelton Pass. H J From our point of view, the lino from Burley to Kclton Pass is H the most important as offering to Ogden the greater benefit of all H L good to come from the new construction, work. Whenever ihc road H is connected up from Saline to Kelton and on through to Burley, HI Ogden will be on the main highway from the east to the great North- Hl west. Traffic, now diverted at Granger, will continue over the H j Union Pacific to Qgdcn and proceed west over the Ogden-Lucin M 1 cutoff to Saline and then north to Burley and on to Portland, Orc- H i gon, Seattle, Wash., or any other point of destination in that grow- M y ing country of tlic north Pacific coast. m j The double tracking to Farmington ends all talk of that Weber M I canyon cutoff which was proposed some time ago as a short cut HT ! for San Pedro trains. With the improvements planned, there will H . ' be no excuse for seeking a better route for Union Pacific westbound Hi traffic going south to Salt lLalcc than shall be available through the H Ogdcn gateway. H ISTt;xt will come the double tracking of the Southern Pacific from H Ogden west to the edge of the lake and then the regrading and H double, tracking of the Union Pacific from Ogdcn east through H Weber canyon. With all this work about to start in and around H Ogden and with conditions locally so substantial and promising, m . we know of no good reason why every Ogdenite should not be look H ing forward to a period of solid prosperity. |
