Show March of Dimes Read-A-Thon raises $1800 By DONETA GATHERUM WOODS CROSS Students at Woods Cross Elementary School sharpened their reading skills while helping the March of Dimes fight birth defects. About half the studentbody of 830 children participated in the annual Northern Utah March of Dimes Read-a-thon. The students in all grades K through 6 succeeded in reading 2300 books in a 30 day period. Through their efforts $1800 was raised for the March of Dimes. The school received a special spe-cial plaque of appreciation and a set of social studies reference books for the media center. Woods Cross Elementary was the leading school in Northern Utah reading more books and collecting col-lecting more money than any other participating school. Students who participated got pledges for pages read and books completed from family members. There was no door-to-door canvassing. canvas-sing. All money was mailed directly direct-ly to the March of Dimes office. The reading had to be verified by the parents. All students who participated received re-ceived special certificates of participation parti-cipation from the March of Dimes. Those who went beyond average expectations earned bronze, silver and gold medals. Six students received re-ceived special gifts for the pledges they collected and the pages they raH |
