I i 4, . .v, 4-. j, $ t' 4 4 Office of the Intermountain and Colorado Colo-rado Catholic, 409 Charles Block, Curtis and Fifteenth Street, Denver, Den-ver, Colorado. -- Many of the people of Denver are unacquainted -with the reasons why passengers on the" Uoretfo Heights street railway -are-obliged to transit at the f team. -railway tracks at Petersburg Peters-burg eh route Id "Fort Logan" and the Convent of the Sisters of Loretto. . The Atchison. & .Top'eka Railway and thW Df-nver & lio Grande Railroad are 1-fKpohs.ible for' disr-ornmoding the people peo-ple who travel on the Loretto Heights line. -Althouph the street railway company com-pany possesses a franchise from the county of Arapahoe and town of Sheridan, Sheri-dan, which gives it the right to cross the tracks of the steam railway com-. com-. parries mentioned above, nevertheless these two companies, the Denver & Rio Grande and Atchison. Topeka & Santa Fe. have been strong enough to: I prevent the crossing of their tracks by I the slreet railway company. The Denver & Rio Grande Railway Company, being a corporation of Colorado, Colo-rado, realizing that the legal right of the street railway company to cross its tracks would quickly be recognized by the state courts, entered into collusion with the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Company whereby the latter company, being a foreign corporation, would secure se-cure an injunction prohibiting the street railway company from crossing the tracks of the two steam roads in question. This injunction was obtained in the United States court and is still in force. Those who secured it have I n imno nf makinsr it permanent, and their avowed intention is to drag it out in the courts for several years, regardless re-gardless of the public discomfiture in the matter. Thus did two strong, powerful pow-erful and Influential corporations evade the law and for the time being tender of no account the action of the Board of Commissioners of Arapahoe County and the trustees of the town of Sheri-ian. Sheri-ian. There is no doubt whatever that I the injunction will ultimately be dissolved dis-solved in favor of the Loretto Street Railway Company. In the meantime this company, although working under I a great disadvantage and most uncalled I for expense, will continue to give the I best service possible under the circum- I stances. |
