Show AAU swim team gets 3rd in Las Vegas LAS VEGAS, Nev. -The Cedar City AAU Swim Team used well-balanced well-balanced scoring throughout its lineup to claim a solid third place finish among the 14 teams competing in a special invitational here Saturday. Though not claiming any individual winners, the Cedar squad still managed to place a host of swimmers among the top 12 in various events, and were thus able to place ahead of every contingent but Henderson, Hen-derson, Nevada's, Basic High School i and Salt Lake City's Highland High School. The meet included two squads from Utah, one small . group from California and 11 teams from the Las Vegas area. The girls' squad finished much higher in the standings than their male counterparts, something unusual for Cedar swimming this year. The girls tied with Highland for second place, while the boys took seventh among the 14 teams in the field. ' Leah Jones placed fourth in both the 50 freestyle1 and 100 backstroke, ""and par-ticipated par-ticipated on two relay teams placing high at the meet. Catherine Wexler took third in the 200 freestyle, and claimed the highest finish among the girls-second girls-second in the : 500 freestyle. The 200 medley relay team of Jones, Ludwig, Fullmer and Widick took fourth. The 400 freestyle group of Jones, Fullmer, Ludwig and Messer took third in what coach Dick Coston called "their fastest time ever." Justin Jensen gained a third in the 50 freestyle and a second in the 100 freestyle. Scott Brown placed ninth : in the 50 freestyle and 10th in the 100 backstroke. Lyle Jensen took a 12th in the 100 freestyle and 10th in the 100 backstroke. The relay team of Justin and Lyle Jensen, Brown and Mitch Melling placed seventh in the 200 medley relay. Both Jensens, Brown and ' Wayne Melling combined to also bring home a seventh in the the 400 freestyle relay. |
