Show SUSC to air comic opera A v,4 i" " J&VX Vr.r..i ...J ,. 1? f 'Ii ( - Gaetano Donizetti's comic opera "L'Elisir D'Amore" will be heard Saturday over the Texaco-Metropolitan Opera Radio Network. It will begin at noon over KGSU-FM, the Southern Utah State College radio station. Nicola Rescigno will be the conductor, with principal roles being sung by Judith Blegen, Louise Wohlafka, Luciano Pavarotti, Brent Ellis and Sesto Bruscantini. Texaco's Opera Quiz will be heard between the two acts. Quizmaster Edward Downes will test the abilities of panelists Peter Bonelli, John Pfeiffer and William Weaver. It is well-known that Donizetti was an effortless ef-fortless composer, but, even with that in mind, it is hard to believe that he turned out such a nearly perfect work as "L'Elisir D'Amore" in only two weeks. (It was, of course, Donizetti himself who, having heard that Rossini had completed "The Barber of Seville" in two weeks, is reported to have said, "Ah yes, but then Rossini always was lazy." It may just have been his speed which contributed con-tributed to "L'Elisir D'Amore's" spontaneity. With its lighthearted parody of the Tristan legend, its quack doctor, its young lovers finally united in the end and a score of constant wit and sparkle, "L'Elisir D'Amore" represents Italian comic opera at its best. Five Saturday afternoon af-ternoon operas remain in this season's Texaco-Metropolitan Texaco-Metropolitan Opera series.
