Show Blanket could save If home heating costs are leaving you cold at night, try an electric blanket, said Marilyn Noyes, extension home economist at Utah State University. An electric blanket only costs about five cents per pight to operate when the blanket is used to raise the surrounding temperature tem-perature 10 degrees Farenheit, she explained. This means people can keep the rest of the house at 55 degrees Farenheit and still keep warm. Noyes said there are several things to look for when shopping for an electric blanket. As with any appliance, one should first look for the Un derwriter's Laboratory (UL) Seal to insure safe construction. Also look for fabrics. The best electric blankets are made of 100 percent acrilan, poly5s"ter or acrylic, Noyes said. Look for controls that have large, well illuminated dials that will be easy to read at night and an on-off switch separate from the indicator in-dicator light. Dual controls will be , more convenient if two people are sleeping in the same bed, Noyes added. This permits each person to select a different warmth level on his or her side of the bed. |
