Fifth graders at Cedar's South Elementary go through a paddling exercise, part of their annual two- week swimming class at the Cedar Pool. Boxing tournament set tonight at SUSC scheduled for bouts include in-clude Monte Sorensen, Cedar City, and Monte Green and Sammy Gallegoes, Layton. Also set for action are two state Golden Glove champions, David Piper, a 15-year-old light heavyweight sensation, and Arnold Pleasant, 165, an SUSC student from Tooele. Tex Carter, who with Piper represents Cedar City High School, will also fight. Piper will go against Ray Hoyt, a veteran fighter from the Hurricane Boxing Club. Ten bouts featuring boxers from Cedar City, Kanab, St. George, and Southern Utah State College are scheduled for tonight beginning at 8 p.m. in War Memorial Fieldhouse. "Each year the Cedar City and Elks Boxiig Club sponsors thrse benefit boxing cards," Kent Hoyt of the club explains. "One card is a benefit for the Elks Club Christmas Charity Fund, one is for the SUSC Athletic Department, and one is for the boxing club to help defray expenses for trips to AAU and Golden Gloves competition." com-petition."
