S l Warren Wright of Chicago Chi-cago and ths Calumet Farms today owns ths highest priced colt to emerge from the historic Saratoga sales in ths past two seasons, a bay colt by Imp, Sir Gallahad Ill-Marching Ill-Marching Along by Man o' War. Wright paid $26,000 for the eolt Ths rscord price, paid at ths sales last night, eclipsed by $1000 the amount laid down for another 8ir Gallahad III colt by John Herts, slao a Chicagoan. Herts outbid Mrs. Ethel V. Mars at $23,000, a pries which helped rsiae the total for ths 53 head sold to $188,323, a new high for the 193 and '37 ssles. Wrigbt's pries bettered last year's top sals by $8000. Tbs sversgs price at the ssle was $3572. Bidding for ths twe top priced colts was brisk. William du Pont snd J. H. (Jock) Whitney bid against Wright, starting at $5000. Mrs. Mars, who went to $24,500 for the second Galllahad III call, outbid Alfred G. Vsnderbilt for a chestnut filly by Stimulus out of Heloise. Ths pries was $8000. |
