The folks here like ths comedian. Ha has come here annually for IT years, with the exception of five years ha spent In London, to visit Mrs. L C "Ma" Coulter It. and her two sons, Frank and Louis. When the comedian strolls through ths vlllags most any day he has perhaps half a doxen children In tow. He speaks to everyone and signs autographs with good humor. Ths grownups admire him; the kids Idolise him. Hot a fisherman himself, hs goes on trips frequently as an "observer." He spends much rime with Joe Knowles, famsd nature man who mads nswspaper headlines before the war for his escapades In the Maine woods. Knowles, an artist, lives here the ysar around. Horton met the Coulters at Portland Port-land nsarly two dscadea ago. Louis, then a football player for Jefferson high school at Portland, tnvibsd him to visit their Long Beach home and he's -been "reaccepting" ever since. |
