(INS) Sharply curtailed by amendments, the new Wagner boueing act, creating cre-ating a 1700.000,000 federal fund for loana to munictpalitiea and atatea for alum clearance and low coat houaing projects, waa passed by the aenate this afternoon and aent to the house. The vote was 64. to IS- The bill, which operates the U. 8. housing authority, also authorizes a $20,020,000 federal subsidy annually to be paid out on the project for the purpose of reducing rents. Its spon- sors declared the federal government govern-ment would be repaid every penny advanced out of rentals of the projects. The bill contemplated construction of projects only where states or-municipalities or-municipalities acres to eradicate slums The maximum rate subsidy would be 3 14 per cent of the cost of the project, which would amount to 135 a year on each $1000 of cost This would be used to reduce rents on the project. |
