Show Annual SUSC - Parks Field Seminars slated "As word about the seminars spreads, interest increases, and more people each year decide to spend a week or two combining study with pleasure here in southern Utah," Starr says. "We especially encourage Utahns to enroll now, to take advantage of the 'More Vacation Miles Per Gallon' experience," he said. "It's an ideal way to stretch the vacation budget and to become more familiar with two very beautiful areas located right in our own backyard." Transportation will be provided, within the park, for participants of Zion National Park seminars. Full facilities are available at Zion and in Springdale, located right outside the park boundary. In addition, park campgrounds will be reserved for seminar participants par-ticipants and entrance fees will be waived. Starr indicates that transportation will also be available from SUSC to Cedar Breaks for the botany course held there. Some campgrounds are available at the national monument with full facilities 23 miles to the west in Cedar City or in nearby Brian Head. Each seminar will be held daily and on some evenings for a period of five to six days. Instructors for the field seminars are members of the SUSC and Snow College faculties. The Zion Park-Cedar Breaks Field Seminars are not part of the regular SUSC . summer school program. A unique opportunity for a combined vacation- N educational experience is being offered this summer through a series of eight Zion National Park-Cedar Breaks National Monument Field Seminars. Sponsored for a fourth summer by Southern Utah State College, Zion National Park and the Zion Natural History Association, the field series includes five-to six-day courses in botany, zoology, art and geology, all designed to use the panoramic southern Utah landscape to best advantage. ad-vantage. Seven seminars will be held at Zion National Park; a botany course will be offered of-fered at Cedar Breaks National Monument. Each session is available for three hours SUSC credit or as a noncredit course. The seminars include: Water Color and Related Media, June 9-13; Flowers of Zion, June 16-20; Zion's History in and on the Rocks, June 23-27; Birds in the Desert and Mountain, June 30-July 4; Showcase Insects of Zion, July 7-11; Snakes and Lizards and Frogs and Toads, July 14-18; Summer Flowers at the Breaks (Cedar Breaks), July 21-25; and Natural History of Animals, July 28-August 1. "Enrolment in each session i"strictly limited to 20 participants, and seminars are held at various times throughout the summer so that applicants can enroll in several programs," says H. Ralph Starr, SUSC assistant vice president for academic affairs.
