Show Exam ordered on change Elizabeth Davenport, 33, of Cedar City was ordered yesterday to undergo un-dergo psychiatric examination at the state hospital in Provo in connection with her arrest last week for allegedly assaulting her one-year-old child. The order for the 30-day evaluation of Mrs. Davenport was issued, by Judge Christian Ronnow who had been named district court judge pro tempore for the proceedings. According to the Cedar City Police Department, Mrs. Davenport was arrested Thursday evening at a local grocery store for al'oc!edly shoplifting. shoplif-ting. Arresting office, -'d Holm reported that as officers i, mpted to take Mrs. Davenport into custody, she threatened to choke her one-year-old son whom she was holding on her lap. After allegedly attempting to choke the child with a lace from her shoe, Mrs. Davenport was arrested for aggrevated assault against the child and taken immediately into custody. Officer Holm also reported that necessary .' force had to be used to restrain Mrs. Davenport and take the child from her. Judge Ronnow declined to set bail in the matter and ruled in Monday's hearing that Mrs. Davenport should be taken to the Utah State Hospital to determine her mental condition before further proceedings are conducted. Judge Ronnow further explained that Davenport's attorney, Phillip Eves, has waived a preliminary hearing in the felony case but that such a preliminary hearing can be requested by Mrs. Davneport after the 30-day evaluation. |
