The meetings were' at Skyline High School with Dixie Nelson president of UAW presiding. Keynote speaker was Josephine Oaks, 1972 young mother of the year, also speaking was Frances Burtenshaw, national mother of the year 1979. A number of other prominent people were there to help with the workshops, and provide information. Early in May a special UAW meeting will be held in Parowan to hear a report from the members who attended the convention. PAROWAN - Several members of the Parowan Chapters of Utah Association of Women traveled to Salt Lake last week to a convention for UA of W. The speical guest speaker was Senator Orrin G. Hatch. Senator Hatch spoke to the group on why the ERA is not necessary as there are now no legal barriers to equal rights for American women. He gave examples of how the laws are working now to insure equal opportunities for women. He gave detailed information in-formation on the dnagers of the Equal Rights Amendment Amend-ment , and why he felt it would not be desirable. The Parowan Ladies who attended the conference were Cherie Smith, Jackie Robinson, Dawn Hanks, DeAnne Robinson and Colleen Adams. Some of the very interesting workshops they attended were TV for better or for worse, Helping youth make moral decisions, Defenders of BENEFIT PERFORMANCE. These students, and others of Debbie's Dance Studio in Cedar City will be performing at a benefit entitled "Main Disco Event," on May SO and 31 at the Cedar High School Auditorium. Performance Per-formance is slated for 7:30 p.m. All proceeds from the program will be donated to Cedar City Corporation to help with the construction of a new little league baseball field. Tickets to the performance per-formance are now on sale by members of the Dance Studio and by little leaguers in Cedar City. For information call 586-6821. |
