Show Literary Club Officers PAROWAN The first week in April, Literary Club members met at the home of Zona Topham to elect a group of officers for the Q coming year. Elected as president was Nellie Bentley; Vice President Helen Stones; Secretary Roma Dalley; Asst. Secretary, Delia Gurr; Parliamentarian Alice Barton. A course of study will be chosen to begin the coming club year and a Calendar of events scheduled. April 16, club members met a at the home of Alice Mitchell to review the last leson on the scheudle for this spring. Bertrude Mitchell and Eulalia Orton ably discussed the founding and settling of Utah's "Emery County". Emery County was named for George Emery who had , served as Governor of Utah Territory, 1879-1880. Orange Seeley, a native of England, helped to settle Emery Copunty and as a result of his colonization efforts, a town in this county was named in his honor. This settlement is known as Orangeville. Bertrude Mitchell who helped present lesson material is a descendant of this family. A Spring Social will bring to a close the activities for this past season. This will be held at the Alice Haycock residence. |
