Redmen lose to Spanish Fork Despite a four run rally in the bottom ot the final inning of play the Cedar High School Redmen came out on the short end of a 10-9 baseball decision in a game , played in Cedar City against Spanish Fork Friday. The Redmen took an early lead in the game pushing over three runs in the top of the first inning but the Dons came back with five runs in the second frame to take a lead, one that they never relinquished. It was the second loss in a row in Region Six action for the Redmen and left them with a record of two wins and four losses as they resumed action this week. Tuesday the Redmen were at Provo to meet the Bulldogs in a makeup game and Friday it will be a traditional battle as the Redmen travel to St. George to , meet the Flyers. That game is scheduled for 7 p.m. to be played under the lights on the St. George municipal park. The league winner in Region Six will automatically win a berth in the state tournament but the second and third place finishes will have to playoff with other regions to win a state berth. Mathma tically the Redmen are not out of the running for one of the top three spots. "We have to win and some of the teams in front would have to lose for us to get a shot at the state berth," Coach Dave Jenson stated. Against the Dons in Friday's action Dave Corry belted a three run homer in the first inning to get the Reds off and running, but it was just not enough. In the big inning three of the five runs were unearned. Sharing mound duty for the Redmen were David Carter and Bryce Gubler. |
