Through the cooperative efforts of Parogonah and Iron County this new steel fire house has been erectred in Paragonah. New Fire Station for Paragonah They have a radio tie-in with the Utah Highway Patrol and handle most of the fires which occur on this part of the highway," said Johnson. A joint effort by Paragonah and Iron County has provided a new fire station in the town, bringing better fire protection to the northern part of the county. According to town board member Robert Wyatt, the station has cost the county $10,800 and the city has provided $21,351 of the funding. The metal building still needs a concrete floor, and additional insulation but it does have electricity, heat, a restroom and septic tank-a big improvement im-provement compared to the unheated barn previously used to house the town's two fire trucks. "The station means that the town will be adequately protected. The volunteer fire department wasn't able to hold training meetings during the winter before. Men are coming to our meetings now and we hope to build up a corp of volunteer firemen and eventually update our equipment," said Wyatt. Volunteer Fire Department Chief Steve Johnson said that with the new building and the town's 12-14 volunteers volun-teers that Paragonah can now handle most fires in the town and north to the county line. "Last year we only had 2-3 fires but the year before we had quite a few. We've been lucky not to have any large structural fires. We try to work with Parowan's fire department. |
