The conference will include in-clude presentations on pain management, body image and sexuality, quackery, community and financial resources, and patient-physician patient-physician communication. Individual workshops will explore cancer patient support groups such as Reach to Recovery, United Ostomy Associaton, Can-dlelighters, Can-dlelighters, and Coping with Cancer. A panel of cancer patients and a panel of family members will take questions from the audience. A $5.00 registration fee will be charged for the conference. However, a waiver, is available for those who find the cost prohibitive. The American Cancer Society will present the Third Statewide Conference on Human Values and Cancer on May 12-13, University of Utah Union Ballroom. "The Conference will focus on the psychological impact of cancer on the patient and his family," said Eve Sanford, Ph.D., chairman of the Utah Division Service and Rehabilitation Committee. The conference will be beneficial for nurses, social workers, other allied health care professionals as well as cancer patients and their families. "The cancer patient faces a unique set of problems," said Dr. Sanford, a psychologist. "Cancer may mean a change in physical appearance, body function or heavy financial burdens. It . also means learning to cope with the reality of living with cancer. The purpose of the conference is to examine ways of |
