Show SUGGESTIONS FOR INCREASING INCREAS-ING LIVESTOCK PRODUCTION In view of the present shortage In the world food supply we urge the farmers of Utah to raise more and better livestock. 1. Use greater discrimination in the selection of cattle. (a) Select dairy cattle by scales and Babcock test. (b) Select low-set, blocky, early maturing beef cattle. 2. Develop farm flocks of sheep. (a) Mutton and wool can be produced pro-duced on weeds and other cheap feeds not otherwise efficiently used. 3. Raise more hogs. (a) Hogs multiply rapidly. (b) Hogs produce human food very economically. 4. Make a bigger business of farm poultry. (a) Set more hens. (b) Produce infertile eggs and preserve them. 5. Conserve all feeds. (a) Harvest completely. (b) Build silos. (c) Stack carefully. G. Feed carefully and economically. economical-ly. (a) Build good feed racks and mangers. (b) Feed a variety of feeds. (c) Feed a balanced ration. (d) Feed liberally but not wast- fully. (e) Feed according to . age, production, pro-duction, and kind of animal. 7. Give animals proper care. . (a) Don't kill the orphan animals, raise them. (b) Don't shelter animals with a barbed wire fence, give them sheds and trees. (c) Don't neglect sick animals, isolate them and call a veterinarian. (d) Don't bring hog cholera to ! your farm, question visitors and kill j stray dogs. j (e) Don't overwork or abuse any 'animal, humane treatment pays the best. j S.
