Show - A PLAN TO INCREASE CROP. PRODUCTION In consideration of the present condition of the world's food supply we make the following recommendations; recommenda-tions; to '.the farmers-of Utah. 1. ..To encourage the planting of fallow lands to corn, potatoes, beans or other cultivated crops. '2.: Encourage' the early plowing of brush lands and planting to corn and potatoes. 3. In the most favored sections where . moisture conditions will admit, ad-mit, 'plant spring barley, oats and wheat.' 4. Advocate strongly that all lands remaining fallow and lands planted to cultivated crops be kept free from weeds. 5. Encourage the building of silos and the growing of silage crops as a means of producing more and cheaper cheap-er feeds. 6:. Urgeevery .section to wage a vigorous campaign for the extermination extermin-ation and control of weeds. 7. Use. every available means to exterminate all farm pests, including insects and rodents. 8. Urge the testing of all seeds and plant only the best obtainable. 9. Solicit the banks and other commercial agencies to render financial finan-cial aid to the farmers in every legitimate legiti-mate way for the purchase of equipment,' equip-ment,' seeds and the production of greater crops. .1. Utilize all waste places by planting standard crops on the best lands and by planting sweet clover and rye on the poorer lands. 2. Encourage the boys and girls to utilize all vacant lots and yards in the' "cities and country, by planting lo onions, beans, - sugar beets, mangels, man-gels, etc. 3. Encourage a greater interest in home gardening, so that each family may be provided with sufficient vegetables veg-etables for home use. 4. -In young orchards advise the planting of such crops as beans, potatoes, po-tatoes, sugar beets, tomatoes, carrots, car-rots, mangels and garden crops. In the older orchards encourage the planting of rape, clover, oats and peas, rape and barley, or rape and oats for forage and pasture. 5. Advise the close pasturing of alfalfa fields in spring for the utilization utili-zation of feed and as a help in the control -of weevil. - . . fca |
