Show DEEP CREEK MEN ARE SHOWING CIVIC SPIRIT; MINES ARE ACTIVE That the Deep Creek people appreciate appre-ciate the importance to the country of the advent of the new railroad, and the coming of scores of new settlers set-tlers to open up the mining end of the district was emphasized one night this week when 75 to 100 men met at Gold Hill and organized a commercial club. The first act of the body was to appoint a committee and get a guarantee from thefeounty to finish a bad piece of road, which separated the new camp of Goodwin from Ferber. Sunday the men will turn out and help finish the job. This will reduce the old round- about road from twenty-eight miles to fourteen miles between the two bustling bust-ling new mining camps. This story was brought in from Deep Creek yesterday by Thomas Homer, who had been out to look after af-ter his mining interests in the Gold Hill section. Mr. Homer was at the meeting and said the way the men poured into the hall was a surprise to him. He didn't think there were so many in the entire district. They chose J. J. Gerster, an" old-time old-time citizen; J. H. Peck, O. A. Ad-cock. Ad-cock. A. J. Smith and O. R. Suhr as a board of directors to look after the details of forming a permanent organization. or-ganization. They also decided to have a big gala day in camp about May 15 in celebration of the advent of the railroad. They promise to make "Railroad Day" a time to be remembered. Mr. Holmes and associates own two groups of claims which are now active. The O. K. Is located two miles southwest from Gold Hill: Three men are driving a tunnel for the "lime contact. It is now In' 137 feet and the objective should be reached in a short distance, giving a vertical depth of about 170 feet. In an upper tunnel some silver-lead ore was uncovered. There are' nine claims in this group. The Amy & Golden group consists of two claims. A shaft here is down ' seventy-eight feet. It is making to cut a copper vein. Samples of this ore carry 2 to 3 per cent copper and $2.40 in gold. The Frankie group has started to ship. It recently uncovered a vein of high-grade copper ore near the surface sur-face and is beginning to market it. M. R. Evans' has started a force of live men working on his Dutchman mountain properties. The Western Copper Utah and Pole Star are shipping ship-ping steadily. Herald-Republican. |
