Show Vicious RABID COYOTE ENTERS PORCH Mad Animal After a Dog Enters Sleeping Quarters KILLED BY FORTUNATE SWING OF BUCKET AND THEN SHOT A rabid coyote was killed on the front porch of the Webster home south of Milford last Tuesday morning morn-ing about five o'clock. Members of the family sleep on the porch. They were awakened by the dog, which also has a sleeping place on the porch, jumping to the steps and barking most viciously at something. Thus rudely awakened, the members of the family raised up quickly and were amazed to see a coyote coming upon the porch not more than eight feet away and driving the dog back step by step snapping at him. Springing Spring-ing from the bed, an iron bucket was seized quickly and swung as violently as possible crashing against the head of the mad coyote. It was a most fortunate strike, for the iron edge evidently dented the skull of the brute and he keeled over on the porch. A shot gun was quickly procured pro-cured and the animal shot and killed, the blood of the vicous animal flowing flow-ing over the porch and steps. While the dog was not badly bitten, the coyote coy-ote only snapping a mouthful of the bushy hair from the watchful animal's ani-mal's throat, the dog will be muzzled and carefully watched. The coyote was frothing at the mouth and his eyes were green and glassy. The body was brought to Milford and shown to Dr. Hunter, Dr. Hamilton, Marshal Baxter and others and then taken to Beaver. It was deemed unnecessary to send the head to the State bacteriaologist. The Webster ranch is only five miles from town and on the State highway and this fact would make it seem advisable to remuzzle the city dogs as well as the country dogs. From ten to twenty thousand sheep have been ranging along the foothills above the highway for the past month and it is perhaps for this reason that the coyotes have been unusually bold and numerous in that vicinity for several weeks. The legs of the dead coyote were covered with dry blood and it was a female evidently possessing a litter of pups somewhere. A pet lamb belonging be-longing to a neighbor was killed and torn to pieces by some animal earlier in the night the mad coyote was killed. |
