Show Two Women Injured As " Aiiibulince Hiis Orfclge Two Roosevelt women were injured last; Sunday afternoon, one seriously, when the ambulance ambu-lance they were driving blew a tire, careened 180 feet and struck a concrete bridge near the Alma Wills home on the Neola highway, a mile north of Roosevelt at about 2:40 p.m. Mrs. Elsie May Beaird, wife of Rev. Nolan Beaird, pastor of the Gusher Baptist church, was taken to the St. Marks hospital hos-pital in Salt Lake City late Sunday afternoon suffering a compound fracture of. the left leg and internal injuries. She was a passenger in .the Dillman Mortuary ambulance, driven by Mrs. Opal Dillman, wife of Harold Har-old Dillman, who is attending school at Berkley, Calif., where he is preparing to become a Baptist minister. The two women had answered an-swered an ambulance call -earlier in the afternoon to White-rocks White-rocks where they had been summoned to bring a sick wo-, man to the Roosevelt LDS Hospital. They were returning the body to the mortuary when their vehicle went out of control and crashed into the concrete abutment, where it froze to the bridge. The dead woman's body was thrown from the hearse to the highway. Mrs. Dillman, who was treated treat-ed for her injuries at the local hospital, reported to Trooper Lowell E. Bair, Utah Highway Patrol, that the steering mechanism mech-anism of the ambulance gave her concern as they were returning re-turning to Roosevelt, and that they stopped several times, but could find nothing wrong. She was given no warning when the vehicle suddenly went out of control. The hearse is a total loss. The condition of Mrs. Beaird was reported as still serious in the Salt Lake hospital, However, How-ever, the family was encouraged encour-aged that she had passed the critical stage, and unless complications com-plications arise, should recover. Mrs. Dillman has been released from the hospital. |
