Show Changes at SUSC Approval of a new Art Department chairman and the appointment of two Education Department faculty headed the agenda of the Southern Utah State Colelge Institutional Council meeting Friday at the College. Richard Adams, Assistant Professor of Art, was approved ap-proved as chairman of the Art Department. With the college since 1977, Adams fees was approved in concept con-cept by the council. The Council will ratify the proposal's details in its May 30th meeting. Sterling Church, Dean of Students, explained that even with the increase, College housing fees will be lower than comparable housing in the community and as low or lower than Utah's other four-year four-year institutions. The Council also had the pleasant business of approving ap-proving a $91,000 increase in the College's budget. The $91,000, the difference between unanticipated revenues and expenses, is due largely to increased enrollment of regular and off-campus students. The increase will be allocated to travel and capital outlay categories, both of which have been significantly affected by inflation. In other action, the Council heard a report from Phil Robison, Development Director, that Telethon IX was given at least $16,000 in pledges; the Development Office has already received almost $7,000 in cash from the telethon. The Council also approved the hiring of two new faculty in the department of Teacher Education. Dr. Charlene C. Swanson will assume the duties of reading specialist and Roger M. Smith will assist in the department's off-campus programs. An educator with 12 years experience, Dr. Swanson currently is a lecturer at California State College at San Bernardino where she teaches gradaute courses in reading education and supervises student teachers. Dr. Swanson received her BA from Marietta Collge, an MA from University of Southern Florida and awarded her PhD in Reading-Secondary Education from Arizona State University. A graduate of Weber State College, Mr. Smith has bachelor degrees in Psychology-Reading and Elementary Education. He received his M.Ed, from Utah State Unviersity in Education and Reading.
