Show Honors for SUSC Golfers Two Southern Utah State College golfers picked all- -Rocky Mountain;, Athletic Conference honors as the Thunderbirds closed the season with second place in the conference and second place in NAIA District Seven. Kevin Averett, sophomore, Cedar City, finished the combined RMAC-district tournament with a 54-hole score of 227 strokes, good enough for a tie for third place among individual golfers. Randy Gallacher, freshman, Cortez, Colorado, shot a 230 to finish in a tie for fifth place. Both scores earned the T-Bird T-Bird golfers all-conference honors. As a team, SUSC finished behind University of Southern Colorado and Eastern New Mexico University. A quirk of circumstances cir-cumstances however, gave the T-Birds second place in both portions of the tournament. tour-nament. ENM is not a conference school, so SUSC got second in the RMAC tournament. Southern Colorado declared its intention to compete in NCAA golf championships, so was ineligible for placing in the NAIA portion of the meet, again giving Southern Utah second place. For the 54-hole meet, SUSC's Dean Cooper shot 233,DaltonDriggers236, and Rhett Long 245. Cooper is a sophomore from Reno, Nevada; Driggers a sophomore from Salt Lake City; and Long a sophomore from Richfield. |
