Show Benson receives Sterling of SUSC's Women's Week activities. She will be presented the formal award May 22 during the Thun-derbird Thun-derbird Award Assembly. Ms. Benson is a junior at SUSC majoring in business administration with a minor in accounting. She recently served as cochairman of SUSC and Cedar City's successful Wild West Week celebration. The Sterling Silver recipient is an active member of student govern-;. govern-;. ment. She was elected as a i senior class senator in SUSC elections this February, ; later resigning to accept r. responsibilities as the ASSUSC executive secretary! Ms. Benson is also employed as a student worker in the SUSC controllers con-trollers office, working with student loan collections. While at SUSC, she has served as a justice on the ASSUSC high court, as a member of the SUSC disciplinary committee, and a two-year stint as secretary for the ASSUSC senate. Ms. Benson has also worked three years on the ( homecoming committee, twice for SUSC's March of Dimes Marathon, and as chairman of the annual freshman tea for a Sub-for-Santa project. She also has the distinction of being named a champion bell-ringer for Telethon VIII, a telephone campaign to raise money for returning student scholarships at SUSC. Ms. Benson is a 1977 graduate of Cedar High School where she was pep club secretary, a member of the CHS assembly committee, com-mittee, and honored as the outstanding secretarial science graduate. The SUSC coed is an active member of the LDS Church, having served as chairman of the LDSSA's annual resurrection scene, as a stake historian; a ward Young Adult Relief Society President, and as committee chairman for Cedar West Stake's Young Adult Friendship Committee. In addition to her many responsibilities, Ms. Benson also finds time to play piano twice weekly for second graders at the Cedar City North Elementary. SHELLY BENSON Shelly Benson, daughter of R. Kenneth and Donna S. Benson, Cedar City, has received the Sterling Silver Award at Southern Utah " State College. - Ms. Benson was one of five coeds nominated for the award by the Associated Women's Council, a student group at SUSC. She was selected by SUSC faculty and s staff women who annually vote for the Sterling Silver Award recipient. "The Sterling Silver Award," Betty Kingsford, associate dean of studnts, explains, "is presented annually to the young woman at SUSC who best displays the sterling qualities of friendliness, charm, poise, womanliness, unselfishness, cheerfulness and leadership ability."
