Show Foster Parents needed with or without children as well as single individuals living alone may apply. Help and training is available through the Family Services office. Mr. Anderson added that some financial reimbursement reim-bursement is given to those who take these children into their home, but that normally nor-mally it only covers expenses. "Foster Parents are always needed", said Don Anderson of the Division of Family Services. Mr. Anderson was referring to the recent "Tie a Yellow Ribbon" campaign which was sponsored by the state and participated in by local foster parents. If you recently saw a yellow ribbon tied in a tree of a neighbor or friend it was because they are now foster parents. In Iron County there are only 9 foster and shelter care homes. Some of these 9 homes are licensed for shelter and foster care as well as emergency foster care. Mr. Anderson indicates that these 9 families are really over-loaded since the Iron County offices average 17 referrals each month. These referrals include neglect, abuse and other youth services. In the past year the office received 72 protective service referrals in connection with child abuse and neglect. There were also 136 youth service refferals which came from schools, Juvenile Courts, etc. Of the nine foster homes in the area only five will take teenaged children. This means that there is a special need for more foster homers willing to help with young people of this age. Foster parents indicate that .: not only do they help the Foster children, but that they and their families also benefit from such an ' association. Some parents have indicated that their own children learn to appreciate ap-preciate more fully what they have as well as learning to share and to love. Any family willing to give of themselves in this worthy endeavor should contact Mr. Anderson at 536-3841. Foster parents must be stable and mature. Couples |
