Show Six Tracksters advance to State Six members of the Cedar High School track and field team will participate Friday and Saturday at the Brigham Young University Cougar stadium. The Redmen finished in fifth place in Region Six competition held this past week with some outstanding performances, particularly by the relay teams, commented com-mented Coach Bob. Schexnayder. A new school record was set at the Region meet by the medley relay team including Danny Harris, Dave Carter, Troy Lunt and Kevin Webb. The Redmen time was 3:40.46, shaving off five seconds from the old record. The Redmen were second behind Provo in a photo finish. In another relay that had to be determined by a picture pic-ture the Redmen were again second behind Provo. This was the 400 meter sprint relay with team members Rusy Beatty, Danny Harris, Dave Carter and Kevin Webb. They were clocked at 44.1 seconds. The 1600 relay team consisting of Rusy Beatty, Troy Lunt, Kevin Webb and Gary Alger finished sixth with a time of 3:29.5 minutes. In the womens division of the competitiononly one of the Lady Reds were able to advance to the state finals. Tonya Widick captured a fifth place in the discus and will participate this week in the state meet. Individually members of the Redmen team qualified in a number of events as follows: Danny Harris, a sophomore: finished fifth in the 100 meter and fourth in the 200 meter sprints. Gary Alger: Fifth in the 400 meters. Dave Carter: Third in the long jump. Bryce Gubler: Second in the javelin. Scott Henderson: Fourth in the high jump. Provo captured the Region Six track and field championship cham-pionship with just one-half points over challenger American Fork. Provo compiled 111 team points to 111 for AF. In third was Carbon with 82, followed by Timpview with 65, Cedar City with 48, Payson 46, Spanish Fork 43, Dixie 12, Springville 9 and Pleasant Grove 4. |
