Show Adams attends Fire Prevention Seminar Rodney Adams of the Parowan Volunteer Department, and also a resident of Parowan, attended at-tended the 14th annual Life Safety and Fire Prevention Seminar in Provo and Orem was sponsored by Utah Technical College at Provo-Orem Provo-Orem in cooperation with the Utah State Fire Marshal's Mar-shal's Office, . the Utah State Fire Chiefs Associaton and the Utah State Firemens Association. Some 250 fire chiefs, firefights and various other fire specialists from all over Utah attended and other from additional western states. Chief expert at the seminar was J. Faherty Casey, deputy superintendent superin-tendent for Outreach programs from the National Fire Academy headquartered headquar-tered at Emmitsburgh, Md. Other speakers and training chairmen came from various fire departments through Utah. Gordon Evans, director of fire training at Utah Tech was general chairman of the seminar. Principal speakers at the opening session April 16 at the Student Center of the Utah Tech Orem campus were Faherty, Evans, a welcome address from Orem Mayor James E. Magnum, remarks from Utah Tech President Wilson W. Sorensen, Craig Barlow, assistant Utah attorney general discussed fire service and the law, and John Otrtoson, coordinator of the national fire service reporting system for the Rocky Mountain States. Two training areas were used, the Provo Drill Tower and Training area on Columbia Lane and the Orem Headquarters Station at 300 E. 1000 S. Enrollment in the annual seminar in the past 14 years has nearly doubled. Utah Tech's Fire Science program conducts b oth on and off-campus training.
