Show PTA Garners Top Honors units for this year have been Paulette Biedermann-East, Maria Smith-North, Kathy Leydsman-South, Margo Matheson-Enoch, Anna Mecham-Parowan, Marion Whitney-Cedar Jr. High, Janine Jolley-Cedar High School and Sandra Slack-Parowan Slack-Parowan High School. Members of the Iron County Council PTA Board include: Linda Burbidge-President, Burbidge-President, Ronda Munford-President-elect, Clair Morris, 2nd vice president, Verl Prestwich-Teacher Vice President, Suzanne Beth Brooksby-Services, Brooksby-Services, Rhea Church-Individual Church-Individual Development Beverly Gardner-Health anc Welfare, Joyce Messer Safety, Stan Shakespeare Education, Louised Miller Membership and Finance Helen Linford is th Regional Director. The Iron County Council PTA has been named the state's "Most Outstanding Council" for the 1979-80 school year at the state PTA convention held in Ogden recently. The award was presented by Dalene Hutchison, President of the Utah Congress of Parents and Teachers and was accepted by Ronda Munford, President elect of the Iron. County Council in the absence ab-sence of President Linda Burbidge. The council received the prestigious award for completing the requirements and purposes of a PTA Council in a superior performance. Some of these requirements :and activities include leadership training, an increase in membership among the units, attendance at state meetings, convention and critical issue conferences, the complete submitting of reports throughout the year, sponsoring workshops and informative meetings and representation on a number of community committees. Council projects this year included efforts to organize a Parent Education Resource Center, Scotty Scarecrow Safety Program, Middle School Evaluation and program, V.D. Clinic at the high school, awarding of an honorary life membership, mem-bership, ;. an artist-in-residence program, work with '. the School Census, anti vandalism programs and books given to each incoming Kindergarten student. Another important factor in the selection of the Iron County Council was the unity of purpose between the council and local units and the excellent cooperation from the community. Each local unit fulfilled its responsibilities and each had outstanding programs and participated in the state sponsored programs such as "Week of the Arts" and the "Reflections" contest. A number of local units submitted project books outlining their outstanding projects for the year. Some of the projects include a mock fire drill at Parowan " High School, a Hypothermia program at East Elementary, Elemen-tary, a teacher appreciation program at North Elementary, a parenting program at Cedar High, a contest to choose a school song and mascot at Enoch Elementary, a current effort to get a pinao program at Cedar Jr. High, an outstanding out-standing membership drive at Parowan Elementary, and the observance of the school's 20th anniversary as well as an excellent "Week of the Arts" at South Elementary. Each local unit as well as the council received a superior rating from the state on their history books. Early Bird membership . awards were also received by many of the units.
