Balloon card returned after 1 Vi years Jeanette Doherty, fourth grade student at Maeser Elementary School, received a response from the balloon card she sent a year-and-a-half ago. Joel Nystrums, 1150 Duchesne, Moab, paid $1.36 in postage to send Jeannette a letter and a fossilized sea rock acknowledging finding her card sent up in a balloon during March of 1980 as a project of the Maeser school. Nystrums' letter stated: "I was seisomographing in an area S.E. of Rangely, Colo, and encountered this card somewhere near where I found this fossilized sea rock of which I enclosed en-closed a sample. It was nearly a month ago that I found it but it took me awhile to get this sent. H ope you like the rock and thank you for giving me a little novelty in life that day. No need to write back. I'm busy most of the time and would probably not have time for further letters." Joe Nystrums. Jeanette was in the second grade when she sent her card in a balloon as a Weekly Reader's writing pal program project. She is the daughter of William M. and Mary Doherty. |
