Show Thirty-three appears to be Uintah High School's magic number in varsity encounters as they scored 33 points in their 33-6 win over Union and 33 counters in their 33 to 28 triumph over Timpview. The 33 points explosions have taken place on even dates such as Uintah's win over Union, Sept. 4 and their triumph over Timpview on Sept. 18. Odd dates such as Sept. 11, a 29-0 loss to Mountain View and Sept: 25, a 21-0 loss to Pleasant Grove, have been unlucky days. Uintah started off with a point eruption during the first varsity game of the season and then suffered a scoring drought in the second varsity game of the year with Mountain View. Uintah was in point heaven during the third varsity game as they toppled Timpview, 33 to 28, but they went straight to no-point hades during the fourth varsity game as they were thumped by Pleasant Grove 21 to 0. Randy Smuin is the leading scorer for the varsity Utes after four games at 26 points. Smuin has played in four games, but scored all 26 points in two games. Uintah's Smuin scored 20 of his 26 points in the game with Timpview as he crossed the goal line for three touchdowns touch-downs and a two-point conversion. Clark Emery blasted seven yards for a touch-. touch-. down in the game with Altamont and 1 Kurt Robb has connected on three extra point kicks. - L'intah has scored 81 points in five games and 84 points have been scored against them. The 81-84 figure doesn't appear too bad, but the unusual item is that 66 of the 81 points have been scored in two games, 33 6 win over Union and 33-28 win over Timpview. Eighty percent of Uintah's points have been scored in two games. Uintah's junior varsity team scored the other 15 points in a 15-0 win over Altamont's varsity team. The l'tes have outscored Altamont, Union and Timpview, 81 to 34, but have been outscored by Mountain View and Pleasant Grove 50 to 0. The Utes' punter, Smuin, learned some new dance steps in Uintah's game with Pleasant Grove Friday. The ball darted rieht hv Smuin Hnrino thn first punt of the game for the l'tes. Smuin chased down the bouncing ball, avoided some Vikings and got the ball off and into the air. Smuin had another close call in the punting world late in the first quarter. Smuin just barely got the ball into the air and then was decked by a number of Vikings, but roughing the kicker was not called. Uintah's Smuin was deep in the end zone, but he got off an outstanding kicks, which was captured at the Utes 41 yard line. Smuin kick the ball about 46 yards. Friday, Sept. 25 was football disaster day for three of the four Uintah Basin football teams. Altamont, Union and Uintah suffered shutout liases, l'intah was blanked 21 to 0 by Pleasant Grove and Union was shutout by Morgan 24 0. Duchesne was the only happy team Friday as they blanked Altamont R to 0. Uintah, Union and Altamont were shutout for a combined score of 53 to 0. Uintah, Union and Altamont will just have to forget about those bad games and get ready for the next game on the schedule and hope that they turn out to be good encounters of the football kind. The Utes have some good offensive players in Jeff Good, quarterback-receiver; quarterback-receiver; Pat Jenkins, quarterback; Randy Smuin, Clark Emery, running backs and Mike Johnson, receiver. Joe Lance and Greg Limb have turned in a number of good runs and Brian McNamara, Mc-Namara, Robert Schult,, Jody Young and Paul Nelson and other offensive linemen have delivered some outstanding out-standing blocks, ( |
