Show National lunch week proclaimed Oct. 11-17 "Nourish Your Neurons" is the theme for National School Lunch Week, Oct. 11 to 17 which stresses the importance im-portance of good nutrition. President Reagan, in accordance with the law which designates the annual event take place during the second full week of October each year, proclaimed National School Lunch Week. "It is an invitation for the public as well as schools and students to think about the importance of good nutrition," Lois Abplanalp, School Food Service supervisor, said. "Our theme this year is, 'Nourish Your Neurons,' which emphasizes the need to nourish the brain as well as the body so we all think and learn successfully," suc-cessfully," Mrs. Abplanalp said. The effects of "budgetary cutbacks are being felt in our school lunch program, and may even by more severe in years to come, but school meals continue to be a bargain when compared to sack lunches of similar nutritional value, Mrs. Abplanalp said. 'The fact that we are completely nonprofit enables us to provide meals at the lowest possible cost," she said. National School Lunch Week gives parents and grandparents the opportunity op-portunity to come to school and eat lunch with their child. Most of the schools will be having menu writing, or poster making contests prior to the School Lunch Week. The winning entries en-tries are featured during the week. Winners are given special treats or free lunches. This provides parents and teachers an opportunity to help the child learn a little bit about school lunch and good nutrition. "Encourage your children to participate par-ticipate in the contest and then come to your school cafeterias and see how your 1 school lunch operates," Mrs. Abplanalp said. Adult meals are $1.50 and parents must be accompanied by their child. The national menu this year will be served Oct. 14 and will be turkey and cheese on a bun, crisp celery and carrot sticks, crispy potatoes, chilled mixed fruit, million dollar cookie and milk. |
