Cougars flo hostf Weasps in homecoming game Morgan exploded for three touchdowns touch-downs in the first half on runs and added a field goal by Tom Vorasane in the third quarter to blank the Union Cougars in Morgan Friday 24-0. Union moved to the Morgan ten yard line a couple of times in the second half on short passes, but was unable to cross the goal line. Lehi and Wasatch are tied for first place in Region Nine at 2-0 and Grantsville and Morgan are tied for third place at 1-1. Union and Emery are in fifth place at 0-2. Union will battle Wasatch Friday at. 7:30 p.m. in the homecoming contest in Roosevelt. "Dean Townsend looked good at tight end. He had a good game. He caught a number of passes in the game with Morgan," stated Union coach, Jay Omer. "Wasatch is going to be tough. They are a good passing team and they like to throw the football. Chad Richard was our quarterback starter in the game with Morgan and we will probably go with him again in the contest against Wasatch. Our starting running backs are Grant Cook and Eddie Martinez." Union will battle North Summit on the road in a non-league non-league game, Wednesday, Oct. 7 and will host Emery Oct. 15. The Cougars will engage in an away contest with Grantsville Oct. 23. Morgan held Union to 34 yards rushing and intercepted three passes. Morgan totaled 212 rushing yards and 140 in the air. The Trojans scored 21 points in the first half. Wasatch and Lehi ' pocketed their second region wins in a row. Wasatch downed Grantsville 28 to 2 and Lehi thumped Emery 40 to 19. Butch Mur-" doch intercepted a Grantsville pass on the third play of the contest and ran 55 yards to score the first touchdown of the game for the Wasps. The score was 6 to 2 at halftime due to a safety by Grantsville. Wasatch scored three more touchdowns to win the game 28-2. Emery jumped out to a 6-0 lead, but Lehi's Brett Nattress ran the ball over the goal line to tie up the game at 6-6. Dave Stanley connected on the extra point kick to give Lehi a 7-6 lead. Three seconds into the second quarter, Lehi recovered an Emery fumble and Nattress scored a touchdown touch-down and Stanley converted the kick to give Lehi a 14 to 6 advantage. Stanley blocked a punt and recovered it in the end zone for a touchdown in the third quarter. Lehi added three more touchdowns touch-downs to win the game 40-19. |
