Show City problems discussed before Democratic women qrouo The Democratic Women of Grand County met Saturday, Feb. 25, at noon in the Ramada Inn with Lulu De Long, chairman, presiding. Dixie Barker, a well-known local democrat and city coun-cilwoman coun-cilwoman who is Community Economic Development director direc-tor was the guest speaker. As a council w-oman, she spoke on needs of Moab City, and city problems of zoning, ordinances, rezoned areas, growth and population, water and sewer. Needs were a new swim center, Senior Citizens Bldg., Civic Center, industrial park, and plans and grants being sought for these proj ects. As director of community development she spoke on aims and goals of this Board made up of a City Councilman, County Commissioner, president pres-ident of Chamber of Commerce, Com-merce, Chairman of Travel Council, and economic devel- opment chairman. Funding comes from Chamber of Commerce, Com-merce, Travel Council and transient room tax as well as Economic Development Council. Coun-cil. This group is one year old and has become a model for other Utah counties. Projects are major sports tournaments, the International Internation-al Hang Glider Competition, film development for television, televi-sion, movie and television commercial filming. The International Hang Glider event will be Sept. 7-17 and will be accompanied by a trade show, production of T-shirts, television and movie rights and will be held at Dead Horse Point, Fisher Mesa and cliffs south and east of Moab. The business meeting consisted con-sisted of ratification of new by-laws with election of officers offi-cers to be held at the March meeting. Dues are payable at that time and are $6.00. Announcements were made as follows: A central committee meeting meet-ing will be held Wednesday, March 1, 7:30 p.m. at the home of vice-chairman Marilyn Mari-lyn Cooper, 634 Locust Lane. All interested people are invited in-vited to attend. The regional Democratic Party consisting of Grand, San Juan, Carbon, and Emery will meet Thursday, Mar. 9, time and place to be announced announc-ed later. There will also be a fund raising meeting in April sponsored spon-sored by Grand County Central Cen-tral Committee, Milton Wal-ston, Wal-ston, chairman. |
