Show BlUx drilling ahead . . . it d- Drilling on the first potash test well at the Buttes Gas & Oil operation 18 miles north of Moab is below the 400-foot level by ! mid-week, according to Moab Buttes manager, Robert R. Norman. 5j The well, being drilled for Buttes by Colorado Well Service of (Rangely, Colo., will go to a depth of 500 feet with a 12 V -inch diameter. At that point it will be reamed to 20 inches in diameter and 16-inch casing set to that level. From 500 feet, an 83-inch hole will be drilled on down to around 7000 feet, with cores taken at certain select intervals to test for potash. Mr. Norman stated that plans are moving ahead to drill a second test well, and that work will be done regardless of the outcome of the first test. A work conference has been scheduled for Thursday of this week between Buttes, the Bureau of Land Management and the U.S.G.S., to work out details of providing access to the second test location. Work on the first hole should be completed within about three weeks, Mr. Norman said. If potash in sufficient quantities is found in the test holes, they will be used to extract brine for testing in a solar evaporation system which could lead to a large industry in the area, assuming that all tests are positive. |
