Show English language class for non-English speaking For the first time in Southeastern South-eastern Utah, the Utah State University Intensive English Language Institute- will conduct con-duct English language course-work course-work for non-English speak-, ing andor reading students. The language training will be done on a twice weekly basis, : for the duration of the Spring academic quarter, 1978. The class, as planned, will be conducted on a no-credit basis, although those who successfully complete the training required for adequate ade-quate English proficiency to do normal classwork in English will be eligible for 15 credit hours of University credit if desired. Dr. Hancock, at the SUCCE office indicates that the major requirement for holding the Spring class will be the inter est of students. The class cannot be offered for fewer than 8 students. The class can be extended to as many additional quarters as the students involved wish. Obviously, an English language announcement of a class for non-English proficient profici-ent students is not the best method of generating interest or alerting those who need the information. Dr. Hancock asks that any local residents who know of individuals in the area who do not speak or read English natively, either alert these individuals to the possibility possi-bility of this class or contact him at the SUCCE office so that SUCCE can initiate a follow-up contact. The class will begin the week of March 27, if student interest is sufficient. Phone SUCCE at 259-7432. |
