Show I Moab ambulance I ! service proves value I The Grand County ambulances , I were called out nearly two days out ' of every three, on the average, during 1977, when 198 patients ; were transported to or from the I hospital. ' I Emergency runs, with lights ' ' and siren, were made to the scene ', in 138 instances, with emergency s I return necessary in 21 cases. The I most common cause for calling the I ambulance was injury of patients, ! with 99 such transported to the J hospital last year. Next most common need for t I ambiance was illness of patients, I I with 71 transported during the year. There were 20 routine I transfers to other facilities during ? I the year, 11 urgent transfers, 17 " I dry runs, 13 fire department standby calls and 2 obstetrical calls. The ambulances responded to L 69 motor vehicle accidents and 69 ! medical (heart attack, illness, etc.) calls last year. There were 15 calls I each for drug overdosepoisonings, and accidents other than motor vehicle. Emergency medical tech- j nicians and ambulance were sent to aid in 21 accidental falls. In 80 of the runs made last I year, transportation was the only j type of aid needed. Other than this, ! the most common aids needed were spinal immobilization, 34 cases; I oxygen, 32 cases; bandaging, 24 1 cases) splinting, 20 cases; and , control of bleeding, 19 cases. j Other types of aid given include suction, airway insertion, resuscita- I tion, cardiac monitoringdefibrilla- I ting, traction, I.V. fluids, medica- ' tion, intensive care, air ambulance ! attendance, extrication from ve- hide, newborn transport and obstetrical care.
